VIGILANCE

Vigilance tackles a sensitive topic — women's violence. Violence against women contributes to just under 20% of all recorded crime in England and Wales and many women regularly practice "safe work", which entails being vigilant of their surroundings, altering body language/clothing, all to avoid unwanted attention.

Vigilance aims to unsettle the viewer by replicating the sense of dread, unease and anticipation women experience. Inspired by liminalism, an aesthetic that explores transitional, nostalgic and eerie places, the 3D crafted scenes look slightly different to reality, enhancing feelings of foreboding.

Vigilance is currently being displayed at Manchester Metropolitan University within the SODA building from 6th June to 19th June
